چکیده
The adaptive capacity of a species and its population is determined by both genetic epigenetic variation, which defines the potential for evolution plastic response to environmental changes. In this study, we used Methylation Sensitive Amplified Polymorphism (MSAP) Fragment Length (AFLP), similar genome-wide profiling techniques, analyze variability in European beech provenances from Germany (DE), Spain (ES) Sweden (SE), representing latitudinal distribution species. addition, evaluated effect moderate water stress on cytosine methylation dynamics comparing two contrasting provenances. Our analysis revealed that trees ES showed lower values diversity than those DE SE. Analyses molecular variance MSAPs AFLPs 16% 15% among variations were associated with respectively. study seedlings SE no significant levels differentiation between well-watered stressed plants. Only 2% variation was explained watering regime without changes results support DNA may play role local adaptation Fagus sylvatica variation.

Studies on European beech (Fagus sylvatica L
Colour parameters of European beech were measured using CIELab system. 103 logs from 87 trees in 9 sites were cut into boards to study the variations of wood colour parameters. Both site and tree effect on colour were observed. Patterns of red heartwood occurrence were defined. When excepting red heartwood there was still a highly significant effect of site and tree; differences remained after ...
متن کاملInsights into xylem vulnerability to cavitation in Fagus sylvatica L.: phenotypic and environmental sources of variability.
Xylem vulnerability to cavitation is a key parameter in understanding drought resistance of trees. We determined the xylem water pressure causing 50% loss of hydraulic conductivity (P(50)), a proxy of vulnerability to cavitation, and we evaluated the variability of this trait at tree and population levels for Fagus sylvatica. We checked for the effects of light on vulnerability to cavitation of...
متن کاملGenotypic variability and phenotypic plasticity of cavitation resistance in Fagus sylvatica L. across Europe.
Xylem cavitation resistance is a key physiological trait correlated with species tolerance to extreme drought stresses. Little is known about the genetic variability and phenotypic plasticity of this trait in natural tree populations. Here we measured the cavitation resistance of 17 Fagus sylvatica populations representative of the full range of the species in Europe. The trees were grown in th...
متن کاملRelationship between Empty Seed and Genetic Factors in European Beech (Fagus sylvatica L.)
The relationship between percentage of empty seed (Pes) and genetic factors was explored in an isolated stand of European beech (Fagus sylvatica L.). Nine allozyme loci (GOT-B, IDH-A, LAP-A, MDH-B, MDH-C, MNR-A, 6-PGDH-A, PGI-B and PGM-A) were used to estimate genetic factors. Pes ranged from 4.8% to 40.9% for seed samples of 91 trees within the stand and showed an approximate normal distributi...
متن کاملPredicting red heartwood formation in beech trees (Fagus sylvatica L.)
Beech-forests (Fagus sylvatica L.) represent the natural vegetation cover for the majority of sites in Germany. Although coniferous forests actually dominate, beech is the most important among the deciduous tree-species in Germany, when considering the area and the economics. While the wood of the younger beech normally shows a whitish colour (white beech), the timber of older beech may form co...
